The Netherlands: Amsterdam is the capital the Netherlands also referred to as Holland and is the center of cultural activity. The Euro is the primary currency. The population as of 2005 is 16,105,000. The Netherlands consists of 41526 sq km.  Amsterdam has been a center for the diamond industry for over four hundred years. The industry expanded when diamonds were found in South Africa in 1867.

 

Amsterdam, the capital, is the largest city. Some of the famous attractions are the Dam, Rijks and Van Gogh Museums, Heineken Factory, Anne Frank House, beautiful canals and flower markets. Be sure to visit the red light districts found near the train station and take a wine and cheese cruise on the canals. Travel there in the spring to see the tulips or summer when warm.
